This turned and shaped jug titled Hen Subject, 1954 is of white earthenware clay, oxide decoration on white enamel, painted in blue.  The ceramic is from an edition of 500.

It is illustrated in the Madoura catalog as item number 250.

In 1954 Picasso continues to have difficulty with Françoise and Jacqueline both wanting his attention.  Sometimes he attended bullfights and other activities with both of them, Françoise usually in attendance with their children.

Picasso is saddened of the death of Matisse although he does not attend Matisse's funeral.  Matisse was the only contemporary artist who Picasso envied.
