Leslie
Mitchell's fabulous "flash finish" raku vases are
the best! We've carried them since 1993 and
they continue to be one of our most popular gift
items. Many purchase a group of them in
assorted sizes for display at home or in the
office.
Mitchell became fascinated with pottery when his family bought the historic Ideal Pottery Factory which was established in 1920 in Dallas, Texas. He studied pottery at the Booker T. Washington School of the Arts in Dallas and established his own studio in 1982 to pursue his own style of raku pottery. Raku is a process of rapidly cooling a glaze-fired pot. The glazed bisqueware is fired to 1800 degrees, then lifted out of the kiln with tongs and placed in covered containers filled with combustible straw and leaves. Flames from the ignited material create the flash effect and crackle patterns that make each piece unique. Although these vases are usually displayed for decorative purposes, they can be used as floral vases if a glass or pastic container is set inside them. Many collectors group three together in varying sizes. Should you wish us to take photographs of raku vases of sizes other than shown above, just let us know and we will share with you what is in our inventory today!Leslie Mitchell's
