Dimensional concave ceramic plates. A nice alternative to a framed work of art. No reflection (or expense of framing). The plates look beautiful in a bathroom of other environment that may be problematic for art on paper. |
It all begins with a
lightly grogged, stoneware clay body, which is
compressed rather than stretched to eliminate
warpage issues. A variety of
gravity defying molds are laid up by hand and
support the pieces until dry. Once removed
they are signed and allowed to dry completely.
After a single firing to cone 04 flat, (approximately 2000 degrees) an airbrush begins to bathe the surface with its first few layers of acrylic stain. The image develops as these stain layers multiply to create both a sense of vastness and intimacy. Frequently, ceramic shards and other details such as wire are attached post color to accentuate key areas. The plates are wired to hang with a fixed horizon, and the panels have plywood backs attached with the wire providing the option of two axis hanging. There is an acrylic emulsion seal coat on each surface to protect from moisture absorption. Although outside installation is welcomed, direct sunlight isn’t nice to any surface. All work is done individually, to maintain an original, one of a kind quality. |
